Substitution: Countries and People

Country + 人 for nationality, with every pronoun: swap one word at a time.

Country + 人

Most country names end in 国 (guó, country): 中国, 美国, 英国, 法国, 德国. A few don't: 日本 (Rìběn, Japan), 加拿大 (Jiānádà, Canada).

Add 人 for the person: 法国人 (a French person). Ask with 你是哪国人? (which country are you from?).

法国
Fǎguó -- France
德国人
Déguó rén -- a German
日本人
Rìběn rén -- a Japanese person
加拿大人
Jiānádà rén -- a Canadian
