Drill: Greetings, Thanks and Apologies

Greet one person or a whole room, thank and apologise, and give the right reply each time, from single words to short two-part exchanges.

What this drill practises

Twelve items on greetings, thanks and apologies: two gaps, one listening item, then nine phrases to say in Chinese, ending with greetings and requests put together.

Tip: Chinese names the person first and then adds the greeting or the thanks: 老师好, 大家早上好, 谢谢大家. And keep the two replies apart: 不客气 answers thanks, 没关系 answers sorry.

Try it yourself

Write a sentence or two using what this lesson covered. Not graded -- just for you, saved so you can come back to it.

Pick with a tap, a number key or Space. A Chinese keyboard on your device works in the box below too.
