Drill: Languages and Learning

Say who speaks and learns which language with 说 and 学, tell 中文 from 外语, and avoid the 说话 trap, from single words to linked sentences.

What this drill practises

Twelve items on 说, 学 and language words: two gaps, a listening item, then nine sentences to say in Chinese, ending with two facts in one sentence.

Tip: the language goes straight after 说 or 学 (说英语, 学中文). 说话 (to talk) already has its object, so it never takes a language: 说中文, never 说话中文.

Try it yourself

Write a sentence or two using what this lesson covered. Not graded -- just for you, saved so you can come back to it.

Pick with a tap, a number key or Space. A Chinese keyboard on your device works in the box below too.
