But Instead: 却

A Chinese magazine is running a series called 'My grandparents'. Write a short description (150–280 characters) of one of your grandparents: what they look like, what they're like, and the ways they surprise people by not being what you'd expect.

  • 却 after the subject for a contrast with what you'd expect
  • 尽管 + a real fact, 但是 / 还是 + what happens anyway
  • 不是…而是 to correct a wrong assumption
  • 既…又 to combine two qualities

Pick with a tap, a number key or Space. A Chinese keyboard on your device works in the box below too.
