Writing practice

Traditions: 传统, 风俗, 讲究

A Chinese student magazine has asked foreign students to write about a festival from their own country. Write a short article (150–280 characters): what the festival is, its customs, what people are particular about, and one taboo a visitor should know.

  • 传统 as a noun and as an adjective (传统节日, 按照传统)
  • 风俗 for a place's customs and 习惯 for a person's or family's habits
  • 讲究 for being particular, or 有讲究 for 'there's a proper way'
  • 特殊 for something out of the ordinary

Pick with a tap, a number key or Space. A Chinese keyboard on your device works in the box below too.
