Unexpectedly: 不料 and 居然
Write a short anecdote (150–300 characters) for your blog about a day out that went wrong in an unexpected way, for example a picnic, a wedding or a job interview. Use 不料 and 居然 for the surprises, and 反而 for something that turned out the opposite of what you expected.
- 不料 to introduce an unexpected turn in the story
- 居然 for something surprising, even shocking
- 反而 for an outcome opposite to what was expected
- Narrative 了 and time words to order the events
