Face and Favours: 面子 and 人情
Your boss's wife has invited you to her son's birthday dinner this Saturday, but you've already promised to help an old friend move house. Write her a message (150–300 characters) declining without causing anyone to lose face: thank her, explain, apologise, and offer something in return.
- Softened refusal: 实在不好意思, 恐怕…不了, 真是太遗憾了
- Face and favours: 给面子, 心领了 or 欠人情
- A reason and an offer in return (改天, 一定)
- Warm thanks and good wishes to close
