Positive and Negative Connotation: 褒义 and 贬义

The same person can be described with praise or with criticism. Write two short paragraphs (200–400 characters in total) about one colleague who is leaving: first a warm message for her farewell card, then a frank complaint about her to a friend. Describe the same traits with words of opposite colour (节俭 / 小气, 谨慎 / 胆小, 坚定 / 固执, 自信 / 自负).

  • At least three pairs of words with the same meaning but opposite colour (褒义 / 贬义)
  • The same facts in both paragraphs
  • A warm, formal register for the card and a frank, colloquial one for the complaint
  • Clear signals of attitude (难得, 可惜, 最受不了的是)
