Couplets: 对联 and 春联

Your Chinese neighbours have asked you to write the spring couplets for their door this New Year. Write a short blog post (200–400 characters) presenting your own couplet (a seven-character 上联 and 下联 and a four-character 横批) and explaining how the lines match in meaning, word class and tone, and where each is pasted.

  • A seven-character 上联 and 下联, and a four-character 横批
  • 对仗 explained: word classes matched pair by pair
  • 平仄 explained: the key positions, and a 仄 ending for the 上联 and a 平 ending for the 下联
  • The wishes expressed and where each line goes

Pick with a tap, a number key or Space. A Chinese keyboard on your device works in the box below too.
