Honorific and Humble Words

You spent a weekend as a guest at the home of a Chinese colleague's parents. Write a formal thank-you letter (200–400 characters) to his father, Mr Zhang. Use honorific words for the family (府上, 令郎, 贵地, 光临) and humble words for yourself (寒舍, 拙作, 晚辈).

  • Honorific forms for the host family (府上, 令郎, 贵地, 光临)
  • Humble forms for yourself (寒舍, 拙作, 才疏学浅, 晚辈)
  • Polite formulas (冒昧, 承蒙, 还望笑纳) and a letter frame (敬祝, 敬上)
  • Specific thanks for the hospitality

Pick with a tap, a number key or Space. A Chinese keyboard on your device works in the box below too.
