Every year, the Morales family has Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma Carmen's house in New Jersey. And every year, things go wrong in the same way: the is late, Uncle Ray argues about football, and someone forgets the sauce. This year, however, something new went wrong.

At eleven in the morning, the kitchen looked like a Mrs. Morales was trying to fit a twenty-pound into the oven. Grandma was making rice and beans, which she cooks every Thanksgiving "because alone is sad". Mr. Morales, who was still wearing his pajamas, was the living room. "Dad!" she cried. "I told you not to tell that story!" "I didn't," her father said. "Grandma did." Grandma "He asked me what happened at your fifth birthday party. I don't lie to guests."

The was late, of course, and Uncle Ray argued about football with everyone, including Ethan, who supported the wrong team. But when they all finally sat down, Grandma raised her glass. "This year I'm for a lot of things," she said, "but especially for a guest who comes early and works hard. Valeria, you can bring this one again." Valeria's face turned as red as the sauce, but she was smiling.
