일요일 아침, 태현 씨는 목이 너무 아파서 잠이 나고 났어요. 그런데 일요일이라서 동네 병원이 문을 닫았어요. 태현 씨는 마스크를 쓰고 문을 연 찾았어요.
젊은 여자 있었어요. “어디가 아프세요?” 태현 씨가 대답했어요. “목이 아프고 나요. 많이 해요.” 태현 씨의 얼굴을 보고 갑자기 웃었어요. “혹시 김태현? 한빛중학교 2학년 3반?”
태현 씨는 마스크를 중학교 때 다인이었어요. 태현 씨는 그때 매일 아침 다인이의 수학 숙제를 보고 썼어요. 다인이는 화를 냈지만 항상 숙제를 보여 줬어요.
다인이가 주면서 설명했어요. “이거 하루에 세 번, 밥 먹고 삼십 분 후에 먹어. 그리고 오늘은 술 마시면 안 돼. 물 많이 마시고 일찍 자.” 태현 씨는 웃었어요. “너는 아직도 선생님 같아.”
태현 씨가 카드를 줬어요. 다인이는 계산하고 작은 같이 줬어요. 전화번호가 있었어요. “중학교 때 숙제 값은 아직 안 받았어. 감기 밥 사.”
나올 때 태현 씨의 목은 아팠어요. 하지만 기분은 아주 좋았어요. 그날 태현 씨는 약을 먹고 일찍 잤어요. 빨리 하니까요.
